Malmberget 15/6-15/8 2010

This year Tomma Rum will be held in the town of Malmberget. The municipality offer us a disused high school’s large art class rooms as a studio, exhibition space around town and the mining company supply us with closeby accommodation. The municipality borrow us a car, bikes and bus passes. Biking distance to lakes and mountains.
About Malmberget It's a town of 8000 inhabitans with thriving iron and copper mines in the upper north of Scandinavia. Very much like the goldrush of Clondyke, the 19th centurys mining boom of Malmberget gave the town a makeshift character with the town centre right next to the mine. As the mining is still very profitable, its expanding activity continues to move the town down towards the valley.
About the studios
Our studio space is a disused high school's large art class rooms and conjoined home economics class rooms, closeby Malmberget’s main street. We envision our activities to offer daily opening hours for the public.
About the accommodation
The mining company LKAB provides us with very fresh housing in the shape of two large modern flats with modern appliances close to our studios. We will have access to two communal kitchens, bathrooms, dish washer and a laundry room. As well as internet and TV. As participants we all share responsibility for cleaning and cooking. You must be prepared to share (bed)rooms with others.
